Investigative Committee detains ALROSA chief construction engineer

MOSCOW, Dec 15 (PRIME) -- The Investigative Committee has detained the chief engineer of the capital construction division of Russian diamond mining giant ALROSA after catching him red handed while receiving a 4 million ruble bribe, the Investigative Committee said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the investigators, the chief engineer received the bribe from a commercial company to help it sign an additional contract with ALROSA. Both people were caught red handed during the transfer of money, and arrested.

“A criminal case was launched against the chief engineer of ALROSA’s capital construction division over the signs of a crime … of receiving a large scale bribe … Besides, a criminal case on bribery was also initiated against the representative of the commercial company,” the statement read.

ALROSA said in a statement that it was aware of the detention and resulted from the measures that ALROSA had been implementing together with the law enforcers in fighting against corruption and abuse of power, the company said.
